IRELAND; HIGH COURT RULES AN UNBORN BABY HAS RIGHT TO LIFE, ALLEGED NEWS

IRELAND; A HIGH COURT JUDGE HAS RULED THAT THE WORD 'UNBORN' IN THE IRISH CONSTITUTION MEANS AN 'UNBORN CHILD' WITH RIGHTS BEYOND THE RIGHT TO LIFE WHICH 'MUST BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY' BY THE STATE; ALLEGED NEWS. [1]

Significant Rights
Mr Justice Richard Humphreys said that the unborn child, including the unborn child of a parent facing deportation, enjoys 'significant' rights and legal position at common law, by statute, and under the Constitution, 'going well beyond the right to life alone'; Alleged News. [1]

Rights Effective
Mr Justice Humphreys also stated that many of those rights were 'actually effective' rather than merely prospective; Alleged News. [1]

Significant Ruling
Niamh Ui Bhriain of the Life Institute stated that this was a significant ruling which confirmed that the unborn baby was deserving of all the rights and protections to which every other person is entitled; Alleged News.

Eight Amendment
The Eighth Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland introduced a constitutional ban on abortion by recognizing the right to life of the unborn child.
  It was effected by the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution Act, 1983, which was approved by referendum on 7 September 1983 and signed into law on the 7th October of that year; Alleged News. [2]
