GHANA: MARIE STOPES INTRODUCES LEVONORGESTREL AS BK-1 EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTIVE: ALLEGED NEWS

MARIE STOPES INTERNATIONAL GHANA HAS INTRODUCED ITS BRAND OF EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION PILL KNOWN AS BK-1 EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION PILL, ALLEGED NEWS. [1] Each pill of BK-1 Emergency Contraception Pill contains Levonorgestrel 1,5 mg: Alleged News. [1]

Abortifacient
According to the study by Kahlenborn, Peck and Severs, "the medical literature supports the assertion that LNG-EC has significant potential to cause an abortion, especially when given within 48 hours of projected ovulation," [2].
In their lay summary, Kahlenborn et al state, "Proponents of LNG-EC have argued that they have moral certitude that LNG-EC works via a non-abortifacient mechanism of action, and claim that all the major scientific and medical data consistently support this hypothesis. However, newer medical data serve to undermine the consistency of the non-abortifacient hypothesis and instead support the hypothesis that preovulatory administration of LNG-EC has significant potential to work via abortion." [2]
Kahlenborn et al's study regarding the mechanism of action of levonorgestrel emergency contraceptive thus clearly finds that levonorgestrel can be abortifacient. [2]

[Levonorgestrel emergency contraception is also known as LNG-EC] [2] . Levonorgestrel is reportedly the substance within BK-1 emergency contraceptive: Alleged News. [1]

Pseudotumor cerebri syndrome
Levonorgestrel in intrauterine device form has been linked to pseudotumor cerebri syndrome: Alleged News. [4] Mirena IUD releases synthetic hormone levonorgestrel daily, Alleged News. [4] Long-term exposure to levonorgestrel has been linked to the development of PTC [pseudotumor cerebri]; Alleged News. [4]
The PTC condition arises when cerebrospinal fluid in the brain accumulates and creates pressure in the skull, leading to swollen optic nerves: Alleged News. [4] If not diagnosed and treated properly, permanent damage, including blindness, can result: Alleged News. [4]
PTC symptoms from exposure to Mirena IUD levonorgestrel include:
- severe, migraine-like headaches
- sounds [clinically known as tinnitus]
- blurred vision
- double vision  [diploplia] [4]

PRO-LIFERS CONCERNS
