Son of Ireland in financial desperation |
As Protesters wended their way past the GPO towards the Dail to protest against the proposed Abortion Bill, many cars were beeping as they passed the gaunt figure of an Irish man lying against the Jim Larkin Monument in O'Connell Street.
Upon investigation, the cars were beeping in support of the plight of this gentleman.
Tony Rochford of Trim, Co Meath, is on Day 20 of his Hunger Strike and is starting to present worrying symptoms of starvation.
Desperate Son of Ireland
Tony is desperate.
He was in construction and became unemployed after the Irish Recession began.
Tony reports that he was unable to draw benefits although he had paid taxes for many years, due to his status as being self-employed.
His savings have now gone on paying the mortgage on his house. He kept up the payments after he lost his work.
Tony got work again last year.
Tony reports that he has not paid the recently introduced property tax.
His financial situation is such that he needs to get back on his feet financially again after the blows of the past few years.
Now Tony is no longer able to work in Ireland due to failure to pay the tax.
Tony does not want to leave his homeland and, in desperation, this son of Ireland was sitting today near the General Post Office to be within reach of the Symbol of Liberty of his forefathers as he prepares to die.
Tony Rochford with Concerned Supporters |
Deeply concerned supporters are rallying around Tony in this hour of his Agony in the Garden.
Tony is wearing dark glasses and appears gaunt and malnourished.
Is there anything that can be done for this suffering son of Ireland?
