YESTERDAY THE SANCTITY OF LIFE WAS HELD SACRED as thousands streamed in from every corner of Ireland to Belfast. Mothers with small infants, families, youth, mature and age-dignified mingled as the crowds chanted, marched and witnessed to the sanctity of unborn life. The determination to resist Abortion Legislation has become grimly entrenched. As marchers wound through the capital, at one point police had to form a cordon of protection for marchers.
Dana
At the Rally the luminous Dana appeared on the platform to resounding cheers that shook the area. Dana spoke of the recent Nigerian Pro-Life Conference, and encouraged all at the Rally to continue to do all in their power to protect life. Cheer after cheer rang through the crowds as the inspirational Bernadette Smyth and Niamh Ui Bhriain took to the stand to empower all present to continue the pledge to witness to Unborn Life.
Diagnoses of short life
Showers of rain did little to dispel the dedication and enthusiasm of the Prolifers, who pledged yet again to keep our unborn citizens safe from harm. An estimated eight thousand people had come for the day. Three mothers tearfully spoke of their little ones who were found to have diagnoses which meant their lives would be of short, rather than long, duration. They spoke of their and their families' suffering, and of the blessing and joy their little ones brought to them during their short stay here on earth. These mothers were reinforcing that their babies' lives were precious. They also reinforced that abortion - death by intra-utero execution - rather than the coming to their own natural transition to the next life in the arms of their mothers was not an option. Protection in the womb for babies with severe disabilities was called for.
