THE AUSTRALIAN COMPANY "BABY BEE HUMMINGBIRDS" IS REPORTEDLY TURNING LEFTOVER IVF BABIES INTO KEEPSAKE JEWELLERY; ALLEGED NEWS. [1]
Thousands of babies left over from fertility treatments are usually donated to science or destroyed, Alleged News. [1]
CBN News has reported how some are letting others adopt their unused embryos, Alleged News. [1]
Now according to the parenting website Kidspot, couples are turning to Baby Bee Hummingbirds to make necklaces, bracelets and other pieces of jewellery using their remaining baby embryos, Alleged News. [1]
The Teachings of the Church
The Teachings of the Church are clear. Human life is sacred, and not to be dealt with lightly.
Pope Paul VI promulgated the encyclical Humanae Vitae.
Within the encyclical married love as God's Loving Design is discussed.
Within God's design, married love is fecund. 'Married and conjugal love are by their nature ordained toward the procreation and education of children. Children are really the supreme gift of marriage and contribute in the highest degree to their parents' welfare. [2] [Humanae Vitae 9].
It follows that a married couple are not free to act as they choose in the service of transmitting life, as if it were wholly up to them to decide what is the right course to follow. On the contrary, they are bound to ensure what they do corresponds to the Will of God the Creator. [3] [Humanae Vitae 10].
"Human life is sacred - all men must recognize that fact," Pope John XXIII recalled, "From its very inception it reveals the creating hand of God." [4] [Humanae Vitae 13].
Pope Benedict XVI
In February 2006 Pope Benedict XVI said that embryos developed for in vitro fertilization deserve the same right to life as fetuses, children and adults - and that that right extends to embryos even before they are transferred into a woman's womb, Alleged News. [5]
Pope Benedict specified that an embryo in its earliest stages is just as much a human life as an older being, Alleged News. [5]
"The Magisterium of the church has constantly proclaimed the sacred and inviolable character of every human life from its conception to its natural end, " Pope Benedict said, Alleged News. [5]
"This moral judgement is valid already at the beginnings of life of an embryo before it is implanted in the womb of the mother who will care for it and nourish it for nine months until the moment of birth," the pontiff emeritus said, Alleged News. [5]
Dignitas Personae
"In recent years, biomedical research has made great strides, opening new possibilities for the treatment of disease, but also giving rise to serious questions," [6] [Aim, Dignitas Personae]
"The human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception: and therefore from that same moment his rights as a person must be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life," [7] [The Two Fundamental Principles, Dignitas Personae]
'The experience of recent years has shown that in all techniques of in vitro fertilization "the number of embryos sacrificed is extremely high". Even in the most technically advanced centers of artificial fertilization, the number is above 80%. '
'Embryos produced in vitro which have defects are directly discarded": an increasing number of couples "are using artificial means of procreation in order to engage in genetic selection of their offspring"; of the embryos which are produced in vitro "some are transferred into the woman's uterus, while the others are frozen"; the technique of multiple transfer in which "the number of embryos transferred is greater than the single child desired, in the expectation that some embryos will be lost ... implies a purely utilitarian treatment of embryos." '
"The blithe acceptance of the enormous number of abortions involved in the process of an in vitro fertilization vividly illustrates how the replacement of the conjugal act by a technical procedure ... leads to a weakening of the respect owed to every human being.
Recognition of such respect is, on the other hand, promoted by the intimacy of husband and wife nourished by married love ... In the face of this manipulation of the human being in his or her embryonic state, it needs to be repeated that God's love does not differentiate between the newly conceived infant still in his or her mother's womb and the child or young person, or the adult and the elderly person. God does not distinguish between them because He sees an impression of His own Image and Likeness.
Therefore, the Magisterium of the Church has constantly proclaimed the sacred and inviolable character of every human life from its conception until its natural end". [8] [In Vitro Fertilization and the Deliberate Destruction of Embryos, Dignitas Personae].
The Image and Likeness of God
The Church thus clearly teaches that newly conceived human life is sacred: and that each person is created in the Image and Likeness of Almighty God Himself.
Whatever is done to that newly conceived Image and Likeness of God, is done to God Himself.
Jesus told us, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, that you do unto me." [Matthew 25:40].
God has laid the command down, "Thou shalt not kill".
[Exodus 20:13]
Creative reinterpretation of both God's original loving design and the guidance of the Magisterium of the Church have led to a number of difficult ethical issues which otherwise would not have developed.
One practical issue is the decision of what to do with unused embryo babies after a cycle of IVF.
Donation for adoption is one avenue. Through adoption the embryonic baby is afforded the gift of life which is his or hers by natural right.
The annual storage fee of embryos has financial implications for parents. [9]
The latest development has been to form jewellery from the ashes of the embryos' remains; Alleged News. [1]
In Australia Trade in Tissue is Prohibited by State Law
In Australia, trade in tissue is prohibited by state law, and in ethical guidelines by the National Health and Medical Research Council [NHMRC] - the National statement on ethical conduct in human research and Organ and tissue donations by living donors: guidelines for ethical practice for health professionals, Alleged News. [10]
However, Australian statutes and ethical guidelines about uses of human tissue have reportedly been established without specific regard to commercial activities involving products derived from these tissues, Alleged News. [10]
Access to embryos
It is significant to query how the company got access to the embryos in the first place from ART facilities? If so, can anyone gain access to these embryos? Further, was there money exchanged in this process between the fertility companies and Baby Bee Hummingbirds?
Commercial use of preborn human tissue
The commercial use of preborn human tissue has caused outcry in various parts of the globe.
- Planned Parenthood sold dead baby body parts, Alleged News[11]
- Scientists transplanted organs from aborted babies into rats for future harvest, Alleged News [11]
- Babies brain cells were transplanted post abortion into mice, Alleged News [11]
- Unborn babies were burned for heating, Alleged News [12]
- Unborn babies were torn apart in utero and used to provide anti-ageing facial creams, Alleged News [12]
- The remains of unborn babies who died a violent death at the hands of humans, being used for food for humans, and for vaccines, Alleged News [12]
- The remains of unborn babies used for experimentation, Alleged News [12]
Now there is deep concern regarding
the use of preborn human tissue of
tiny unborn babies within jewellery
commercial enterprise; Alleged News.
