THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT:
SHOALS OF INFIDELITY
JESUS EMPHASIZES HOW STRAYING FROM FIDELITY IN A MARRIAGE CAN RUIN MARRIAGES, BREAK UP FAMILIES AND NEGATIVELY AFFECT LIVES. The Savior counsels self-discipline in the area of intimacy, such a powerful drive in humankind. If not kept under control, physical desire for another may cause havoc.
Jesus directs that not only should an uncoerced, freely chosen marriage be honored and respected by the community, it should be respected by each individual.
This respect should be to the point that each person should guard their hearts, eyes and minds from straying to steal the lawful spouse of another, with all the heartbreak and long-lasting consequences this causes.
Jesus tells us thus to be steadfast in spirit to rein in our sexual impulses so we may live decent, balanced lives in harmony with - and respect for - others.
